🗞️Diversity and inclusion news🗞️

🍲Try a different cuisine🍱

Turns out your dinner plate might be doing more than just filling you up — it could be expanding your mind. A new UK study finds that frequent and varied consumption of international cuisines makes people measurably more tolerant towards immigrants, reducing the likelihood of seeing them as cultural or economic threats by roughly 10% (Osuh, 2025).😧

The researchers tracked over 1,000 white British adults and found that enjoying foods from India, Turkey, China, Thailand, the Caribbean, and Spain wasn’t just a tasty hobby — it correlated with pro-immigrant attitudes and a lower likelihood of voting for anti-immigrant politicians. And no, it’s not just that adventurous eaters are naturally woke; the effect persisted even after controlling for political leaning. Apparently, kebabs, jerk chicken, and pad Thai are quietly doing the work of social cohesion while you chew.😅

Lead author Dr Rodolfo Leyva notes that restaurants and food stalls offer low-barrier, welcoming environments to interact with people from immigrant communities. Unlike museums or concerts, everyone eats. And who knew that your lunch could double as a subtle, palate-powered PR campaign for multiculturalism?🍵

The study’s title, Breaking Bread: Investigating the Role of Ethnic Food in Potentiating Outgroup Tolerance, even nods to the science: intergroup contact theory suggests that shared goals and positive interaction reduce prejudice. So next time you’re queuing for a curry or debating whether to try vegan pho, remember: you’re not just feeding yourself, you’re feeding tolerance.💛

So what? In a country wrestling with debates over immigration, apparently the fastest route to empathy may be through your stomach. Schools, food businesses, and tourism campaigns could leverage this—turning samosas, spring rolls, and tapas into edible diplomacy. Who needs policy papers when you have a decent naan?

💸MacKenzie Scott Doubles Down on DEI with $42 Million Donation💸

MacKenzie Scott (Jeff Bezos's former wife) is back, and she’s not playing small. Her latest round of giving reinforces her singular approach to philanthropy: trust-based, no-strings-attached, and laser-focused on diversity, equity, and inclusion.👀

This time, Scott’s $42 million gift to Bay Area nonprofit 10,000 Degrees marks the largest single donation in the organization’s 45-year history, expanding college access for low-income, largely non-white students. That’s not all. Eight-figure commitments to Native Forward and historically Black colleges via UNCF signal Scott’s continued commitment to building durable pipelines of opportunity for underrepresented students. These aren’t symbolic gestures; they’re long-term bets on educational equity, providing flexible capital to organizations that can actually put it to work immediately.💁

Scott’s giving model is the stuff of legend in philanthropy circles: speed, scale, and trust. Over the past five years, she’s donated over $19 billion across thousands of organizations, from health care to housing to postsecondary education, often sending massive, surprise gifts to proven performers. Her philosophy is simple: give the money, get out of the way, and let grantees translate funds into impact.💸

So what?

While many funders retreat under economic uncertainty, Scott’s approach doubles down on DEI at a critical moment. Scholarships, endowments, and unrestricted funding like this create durable infrastructure for students who might otherwise be left behind. In an era where systemic inequities remain stubbornly entrenched, these gifts don’t just provide resources—they reinforce that talent and ambition shouldn’t be constrained by race, income, or geography.

If you’re tracking philanthropy, the takeaway is clear: Scott isn’t just donating; she’s setting a blueprint for how strategic, trust-based funding can accelerate systemic change—and she’s not stopping anytime soon.

📉 So what?

It was a vibe!

🤖Circular economy🤖

OpenAI, Nvidia, AMD, Oracle… it’s starting to look less like a tech ecosystem and more like a very expensive game of musical chairs. Last month, OpenAI agreed to buy billions in chips from AMD (including an option to take a 10% stake in the company), while Nvidia simultaneously invested $100B in OpenAI to power data centres with… Nvidia chips. Oracle, CoreWeave, Broadcom — everyone’s got a piece of everyone else.😳

Yes, this is technically called “circular financing,” and yes, some analysts are starting to squint at the froth. Think dot-com bubble meets AI hype: money spinning in circles, valuations skyrocketing, and yet profitability? Still a bit of a mystery.

Earnings season makes this even spicier. OpenAI has reported $4.3B revenue for H1 2025, but it’s still burning cash faster than a GPU farm in a desert. AMD and Nvidia stocks jump every time OpenAI waves a purchase order like a magic wand. Investors are betting that all this interconnected extravagance eventually turns into actual cash. Or maybe they’re just hoping nobody trips over the wires first🤔

So yes, the AI market is booming. But the circularity of these deals, combined with a season of earnings reports, is making some people wonder: is it a bubble? And if it pops, will it be like last time… or worse?

📉 So what?

All the multibillion-dollar handshakes and equity swaps look flashy, but at the end of the day, they’re spinning cash in circles. OpenAI, Nvidia, AMD, Oracle — everyone’s invested in everyone else’s success. If profits don’t follow fast enough, these circular deals could inflate valuations beyond reality. And with earnings season highlighting actual revenue (or the lack thereof), investors and the wider market are starting to squint.

For the rest of us, this matters because a stumble in the AI sector isn’t contained to Silicon Valley: it ripples across chipmakers, cloud providers, even energy markets powering these massive data centres. A misstep here could mean tech stock swings, delayed innovation, or, worst case, a mini-market panic.

🚗Get a handle on it🚗

Ok we've all (ok most of us have) done it. A Tesla has pulled up and we're wondering how to get it😅. Well its because the door handles are flush the the Chassis and we have to do that fiddly push to open the thing to pull😂

Tesla’s sleek retractable door handles—once the envy of automakers and a symbol of the electric future—are now the subject of consumer complaints, NHTSA investigations, and potential redesigns (Marshall, 2025). Drivers have reported stuck handles, low-voltage battery failures, and worst of all, kids trapped inside cars, sometimes forcing desperate attempts to break windows.😤

Now China, the world’s largest auto market, is proposing new rules requiring mechanical release handles inside and out—essentially outlawing flush handles that are tricky to grip. Automakers could have as little as mid-2027 to comply, a deadline that would fluster even the best supply chains. Experts warn that cramming electronics, insulation, wiring, and speakers into door panels is a delicate dance, and retrofitting a handle can cascade into expensive design headaches.

Tesla’s head designer Franz von Holzhausen says they’re planning a hybrid handle, combining electronic and mechanical releases to make muscle memory work in emergencies. Meanwhile, other EV makers like Rivian are quietly rethinking rear-seat releases. It’s a reminder that for all the buzz around electric and autonomous cars, sometimes the most futuristic tech still hinges on the humble door handle.🙆

🧠So what?

Tesla’s door-handle drama is more than a design quibble—it’s a reality check for the EV industry: futuristic gadgets are only impressive if people can actually use them in an emergency. Elegance doesn’t excuse usability, and regulatory pressure isn’t going away—flush handles may look sleek, but if you can’t open the door when it counts, luxury quickly turns into liability.
