AI is here, and coming for the early talent pipeline, plus how longs in Meta's pipeline this week

🗞️Diversity and inclusion news🗞️

😲OpenAI Hits ‘Delete’ on Diversity🏦

OpenAI — the company that claims to be building the future of artificial intelligence — seems to have hit the undo button on its diversity commitments. No this isn't a hallucination, According to TechCrunch, the page outlining their promises on diversity, equity, and inclusion has vanished from their website. Just… gone.

When asked about it, OpenAI said they’re “restructuring” how they present their values. Because nothing says “we care” like deleting the page entirely. 💻

Apparently, OpenAI wants to “integrate” their diversity commitments into broader company goals. Which is corporate speak for: Let’s just water it down to appease trump and hope nobody notices. 🤷

Well we and techcrunch did and you can read more of their take on it here

🏢Deloitte on Diversity🏢

In a move highlighting an interesting divide between corporate practices in the US and the UK, Deloitte's UK branch has reaffirmed its commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) initiatives. This stance comes as Deloitte's US counterpart scales back its DEI efforts, influenced by recent political shifts under President Donald Trump's administration.

Richard Houston, CEO of Deloitte UK, recently communicated to staff that the firm remains steadfast in its diversity objectives. The UK operations will continue to:

  • Report Annually on inclusion progress.
  • Maintain Diversity Networks to support underrepresented groups.

Houston emphasized that DEI remains integral to Deloitte UK's values and operations.

On the other hand conversely, Deloitte's US arm has begun to "sunset" its diversity goals. This decision aligns with President Trump's executive order aimed at dismantling DEI programs within federal agencies and contractors. The order seeks to eliminate what it terms "radical and wasteful" DEI initiatives, enforcing a more traditional interpretation of civil rights laws.

👨🏾‍🎓Graduating into what👨🏾‍🎓

Ah, the Big Four. Once the promised land of sharp suits, corporate lingo, and the hallowed “fast-track to success” graduate schemes🧳.

For years, they’ve scooped up fresh university grads like a Dyson in overdrive, stuffing them into audit departments, finance teams, and "client-facing" (after 3 years or so) consulting roles that looked great on LinkedIn but were often powered by soul-crushing Excel spreadsheets and perfecting the skills of box alignment on powerpoint😅

According to The Times, the Big Four—PwC, Deloitte, EY, and KPMG—are tightening their belts and slashing graduate roles as economic uncertainty, shrinking budgets, and automation (oops!) threaten their hiring sprees. The days of endless cohorts of bright-eyed grads sipping overpriced lattes in Canary Wharf might be numbered although this shouldn't be a surprise to anyone who hasn't been watching how corporate firms react to financial pressures📉

We also have a heads up from some soon to launch research that this represents a wider trend of entry level tech rolls Down 40% ⬇️

So what?

This is actually the start of an AI powered existential crisis. Stagflation + productivity gains (i.e. lets cut people costs) could lead into a doom cycle of unemployment especially for our younger people. Ultimately they're going off to study, and increasingly they are coming out with nothing much more than tens of thousands of pounds of Debt to show for it. We have big problems.

👀ARM's new chips👀

So it's that time of the year for the Oscars and it looks like ARM has finally decided to stop playing the supporting role and step into the spotlight. The British (But went and floated in the USA) semiconductor giant, known for designing the chips that power pretty much everything you own, has now decided to start making its own chips. That’s right — ARM said, “Why let others have all the fun (and profits)?” 😎 (Undoubtedly they must have seen the grown in Nvidia, TSMC, Broadcom and the like and wondered if they YOY of 28.82% was enough.)

So with that guess who's already sliding into their DMs with a major order?🤭 Meta. Yes, Zuck & Co. are looking like ARM’s first customer, betting that ARM’s new silicon will help power their AI ambitions and — let’s be honest — probably more VR meetings no one asked for (if the metaverse survives that long😅) Why? Well all that money has to go somewhere and being an early adopter probably has some pros apart from diversifying your supply chain💰

For years, ARM made its money behind-the-scenes licensing chip designs to tech giants like Apple, Qualcomm, and Nvidia however now, making them is a move that will shake up the entire chip game, making ARM both a partner and a competitor to some of their biggest customers. Spicy, right? 🌶️

So what?

Well it seems to work for a lot of tech frenemies so let's see how this goes. If you want to join the Arm team they have lots of roles below too🙌🏾

😅Reddit paywalls 😅

Well, folks, it looks like Reddit has decided to cash in on r/all of our scrolling habits. According to PCMag, the front page of the internet is going like a lot of front pages and getting a little more... exclusive. Starting in 2025, Reddit will introduce paywalls, meaning some communities and premium content could be locked behind a subscription.💸

Reddit has always been a place where anyone—from meme lovers to stock market savants—could share knowledge, argue, and vibe for free. Now, the platform wants users to cough up cash for “premium experiences” and exclusive content. Translation: Want to access certain subreddits or skip the ads? Pay up. 💳

Sure, Reddit says this will help creators monetize their communities and keep the platform sustainable. But longtime users are already side-eyeing this move, worried that their beloved freewheeling forums might turn into digital gated communities. 🚪😬

To be fair, Reddit isn’t alone here. Platforms like YouTube, X (formerly Twitter), and Patreon have all leaned into subscriptions and paywalls. But will Redditors—famous for roasting bad corporate moves—embrace this shift? Or will we see another r/WallStreetBets-style rebellion, but this time against Reddit itself? 🧯🔥

The move could reshape Reddit’s ecosystem:
📈 For creators: A chance to monetize content and build sustainable communities.
🙄 For users: More ads and paywalls unless they subscribe.
💸 For Reddit: A new revenue stream as it prepares for life beyond its recent IPO.

But will paywalls ruin the magic of Reddit’s open knowledge-sharing culture? At a minimum it'll probably help them defend the copyright case against those who they don't have content licensing partnerships with scraping their material👀 (See this for interesting news in that space)🧑🏾‍⚖️

On the other hand you could just the natural evolution of social platforms post IPO chasing profit? Only time (and a lot of angry Reddit threads) will tell. ⏳💥

In the meantime, let’s get ready for a new kind of upvote war—this time, with our wallets. 💳🚀

So what?

This is a reminder that the internet’s “free-for-all” era is fading fast. As Reddit follows the subscription trend, expect more platforms to push paywalls and premium tiers. Sure, it might help creators, but it also means the best content could be locked behind a price tag. Hey if its good pay for it (the rest of life works like that right) some may say, but this is a departure from 00's ad funded internet. Growth comes at a cost. But hey—if Redditors have taught us anything, it’s that they love a good protest. So, grab your popcorn... the comment threads are about to get spicy. 🍿🔥

🔞US legal case and grok🔞

In today’s episode of Billionaire Bingo, Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk are back at it—this time, battling over who can control the future of AI. On one side, we have Zuck laying cables under the ocean like he’s plotting a Bond villain’s lair. On the other, Elon unleashing his latest chatbot, Grok 3 — because, apparently, we didn’t have enough chaos on the internet already😅

Zuck’s new project is infact a subsea cable longer than the Earth’s circumference designed to supercharge AI innovation and, presumably, ensure Threads loads faster than your patience wears thin. According to Computer Weekly, it’s all about increasing global connectivity to feed Meta’s ever-hungry AI models. Or, in other words, making sure your Instagram Reels are a credible threat to tiktok. 🌊🔌

Never one to be upstaged, Elon’s xAI has dropped Grok 3, an AI chatbot promising more wit, wisdom, and possibly fewer filters than your most chaotic group chat. Naturally, Elon’s angle is that Grok is “less censored” than the competition. So, expect your digital assistant to be helpful and probably hateful too given its trained and integrated with Twitter (Oh X)💬

Part of us feels a bit like Little X (Real name: X Æ A-Xii) (or Trump) must have felt at that press conference (See the image) 😅

Of course, we still haven’t seen that long-awaited cage fight between Musk and Zuckyou know, the one that promised to be the greatest tech bro showdown since the final battle of that Space game on your old Nokia 3320. Given nothing seems beyond the realms of possibility we asked grok to develop an image of what it could be like photorealistic image of a cage fight between Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg, with Donald Trump as the special guest referee in the background. See below. Even that may be enough to make Linda McMahon former WWE executive and now Education secretary (can you make the link because we can't) stand up (early 00's nostalgia for the Wrestling fans out there)😅

So what?

Zuck’s laying cables, Elon’s launching bots, and we’re all stuck somewhere between the deep sea and deep learning. But here’s the thing:

🌍 Infrastructure = Power: Whoever controls the pipelines (digital or physical) controls the conversation—and your data.
🤖 AI Arms Race: Grok vs. Meta’s AI — it’s less about tech and more about who gets to influence what you see, buy, and believe.
🎭 Big Tech Theatre: At this point, the drama is the product.

The real fight isn’t happening in a cage—it’s happening under the sea, in your feed, and on your devices. But hey, if they do settle it in the ring, we’ll be front row. 🍿🥊💥
