🗞️Diversity and inclusion news🗞️

🏢Return to the office🏢

Return to the office hurting diversity. Well we told you so its nice to see some other people pick up on it from a number of angles

One that came to our attention was Bloomberg which cited the number of multi-layered reviews staff with disabilities will need to go through to get approval to work remotely will push back some diversity and inclusion efforts

Finally we wanted to highlight some things you may look to bring to the work place around Supporting care givers

🧠Neurodiversity🧠

We saw some shocking data following a report by Zurich as insurers around neurodiversity

  • Half of neurodivergent adults have been discriminated against when looking for a job;
  • 1/5 laughed at because of neurodiversity
  • 1/6 had job offers rescinded because of neurodiversity
  • 51% feel they can’t or shouldn't disclose their neurodiversity due to the stigma
  • Inflexible interview processes hinder neurodivergent careers and erode confidence
  • Two thirds say employers see neurodiversity as a ‘red flag’
  • Zurich UK will offer all employees assessments for neurodiversity as part of its private healthcare package from 2025, among other support practices

💻A bluer sky🐥

So part of the fall out of a Elon Musk backed Donald Trump election win is that there was an exodus of users from X (Formerly known as twitter). One of the most notable was the left wing publication the Guardian, citing "that the benefits of being on X are now outweighed by the negatives and that resources could be better used promoting our journalism elsewhere. Before sticking the virtual knife in stating that: that X is a toxic media platform and that its owner, Elon Musk, has been able to use its influence to shape political discourse"💅🏾

Will it be a loss? Well folks can still share its articles and its journalists can still use it, so we're not so sure, however the decision to stop fighting what increasingly appears to be a right wing echo chamber is one that the remaining left leaning population may regret🤔

One of the big beneficiaries is X copycat, Bluesky which is number 1 on the app store and has hit its 20m user (Twitter has a factor of something between 20-40x depending how you count it👨🏿‍💻

What do folks like about it? Well it appears less toxic which is seemingly enough. This bifurcation of social media didn't start here with Truth Social being an alternative for those who, we suppose, didn't think Twitter and now dont thing X is right wing enough.👀

So what?

So where do we go from here, We're considering our presence on X if we're honest. We don't engage that much on it and like many advertise wonder if our content is best served there. Let us know if you have any opinions on what we should do.

🙏🏾Breaking up Google😅

We generally don't like to comment too much on rumour but when its one uncovered by Bloomberg and cited by Reuters, you can be pretty confident they are ahead of the curve rather than speculating or throwing off misinformation soo, reports that The U.S. Department of Justice will ask a judge to force Google to sell off its Chrome internet browser as a consequence for it being found guilty of being a monopoly is HUGE news🗞

Estimates generally land on the consensus that two-thirds of the global browser market is run on Chrome which the DOJ argues enables Google to control how people view the internet and what ads they see👨🏿‍💻

This will take a while as Google is yet to even appeal yet given it  U.S. District Judge Amit Mehta to make a final ruling including remedy's such as selling of chrome (which he is due to consider in April), which he is estimated for August 2025. Mehta has scheduled a trial on the remedy proposals for April. Other avenues Prosecutors have floated include, ending exclusive agreements like the one where Google pays billions of dollars to Apple to be Safari's default search engine to selling off it's Android operating system😮

So what?

This one could come down to Donald Trump who at latest record was skeptical about breaking up Google (although he has also mentioned going after them for perceived bias against him).

Perhaps it's going to be CEO Sundar's job to whisper loudly in his ear on behalf of Google. One one had breaking up the giant could spur better competition and consumer choice but on the other hand could damage the growth of one of corporate America's largest companies.

🤔How young is too young🤔

According to Roblox its 13 (in the context of enabling users to speak to each other)😅

Yep they announced new parental controls meaning its youngest users will have to get parental permission to talk to other users (some of which may be their age) but some who definitely wont be.😮

Roblox is the most popular gaming platform for eight to 12 year olds in the UK, so it has been under pressure to make its experiences safer for children (you may recall the story of Kim Kardashian's son seeing an advert for her infamous tape on the platform for instance)😅

So what?

We've seen a lot of pressure around online safety on social platform and it turns out some of the companies appear to be jumping before they are pushed

🤔VC GPT🤔

Diversity focused Fund Ada Ventures has announced its own tech product as it released the first impact report of its kind.📈

The AI pitch deck review tool dubbed "AdaGPT".

offers founders instant feedback on their decks, "creating an anonymous, free-to-access sounding board for any founder to use before approaching investors."🤖

Michael Tefula, the head of the product as tech.eu tells us is a Chartered Accountant, published author, and has previously collaborated with the Ada Ventures team as part of their market-leading Ada Angels programme and as the firm's "Investor-in-Residence"; helping the team to source deals.🧠

Founders are encouraged to trial the tool and provide feedback to help further refine the offering📲

So what?

How long until VCs's get rid of them selves hey😅.

I mean we can't see a day where they decide on mass some sort of algorithm him (Despite the data) might be better at them in terms of guaranteeing returns to their LP investors.

Theoretically it makes sense some funds will pop up doing that, as take investing, ETF's have shown to be competitive with Active investors anyways.🤔

The issue with this is "what Bias will be in the tool?" If VC is largely pattern matching and heuristics, AI should be perfect to do that too, but what analysis has been done on how much the tool will give different fernt feedback based on its inference of Race or gender (say by judging the team page). On the day the Ada team lets us know that 28% of VC investments  have a woman founder, there is undoubtedly more to do
